These Four Characters Are Why The Suite Life of Zack and Cody is Better Than The Suite Life on Deck

Updated: Jun 16, 2020

I don’t think this opinion will be as controversial as some of my other ones, because I think that it is universally acknowledged that Suite Life is better than Suite Life on Deck. The characters in general on Suite Life are just far superior to those in Suite Life on Deck, and the four characters below add so much to the Suite Life world, and make it much better compared to the series' sequel show, the Suite Life on Deck.

First up, we have Maddie Fitzpatrick. Maddie is the ever present candy girl at the Tipton Hotel, where the boys live, and the crush of the three years younger ladies’ man, Zack. Zack is constantly flirting with her and calling her sweet thang, and she gently rejects his advances because of their age difference, but gave him hope for the future. Her spunk, charm, and kindness are sorely missed on SLoD, and the couple episodes where she does guest star on SLoD are some of the best in my opinion. My endgame is still Zack and Maddie, tbh.

Another great character missing in SLoD is Carrie. Carrie is the loving, single mother of Zack and Cody. She is the lounge singer at the Tipton Hotel, where she lives for free. Carrie’s relationship with her boys is tough but fair, and the love she has for her boys is obvious. She also serves as a mother figure for Maddie and London, which was great to see, because London’s mom is never mentioned in the show, and her dad is too busy running his many hotels to have any sort of real relationship with his spoiled daughter. Carrie is just mom goals, and I kind of wanted her to be my mom growing up, and that’s why I found and followed her actor on Instagram in 2020. Still not over it.

Another lovable character missing on SLoD is Esteban Julio Ricardo Montoya de la Rosa Ramirez. Esteban is the goofy, quirky, and superstitious bellboy from Peru. He has a pet chicken named Dudley that only appears in two episodes, but he talks about him often. Esteban usually got roped into some of the boys’ schemes because of his good heart, and often got punished by Mr. Moseby, the hotel manager, for his role in their escapades. He is super sweet, really funny, and one of the best parts of the show.

The last character that really made a huge difference is Arwin. Arwin, sweet Arwin. Arwin is hotel engineer who lives in the hotel, and is a total momma’s boy. He is a socially awkward man in his early forties who has a bond with the boys and has a huge crush (and borderline obsession) on their mom, Carrie. Arwin’s character is hilarious and totally relatable with his unrequited crush on Carrie. He is always inventing things to make his life easier, the boys’ life easier, or something convenient for the hotel. Reader, these inventions never work. And often cause destruction. Arwin is one of the show’s fan favorites, and it shows, as the network ordered a spin off series focused on him. Unfortunately, it fell through. I would have loved to see the day to day life of this character to go more into his backstory.

These four characters truly added a huge difference between the shows, and I firmly believe that is why the original series is much better than its sequel.
